Wang Yangming was one of the greatest Chinese philosophers of late imperial times. In addition, we was a great general, calligrapher and writer, more or less a universal genius. Interesting enough he was unable to speak until the age of 5, but he made up for that later in life. The wikipedia gives an interesting anecdote from his marriage:
”明孝宗弘治元年(1488年)【王阳明】于南昌与表妹诸氏成婚,结褵之夜,竟与铁柱宫道士畅谈养生术,乐而忘返。”
”In the first year of the Hongzhi period of Ming Xiaozongs reign (1488 AD) [Wang Yangming] was in Nanchang to marry a younger cousin of his named Zhu. At the night of the wedding, he was unexpectedly discussing life-preserving techniques with a Daoist priest in the Iron pillar palace. This delighted Wang and he forgot to return home.”
Lol.
